apple pie -(minus)- the crust

 Because everyone needs something sweet sometimes...

...and your house will smell delicious!!

Servings 3-4
Total Time 60 minutes
  • 4 granny smith apples, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 
  • pinch of ground cloves
  • pinch of ground ginger
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • vanilla ice cream for serving (if you are making this gluten-free make sure to choose a gluten-free ice cream)


In a large pot add the sugar, syrup, lemon zest, vanilla and spices.  Stir and then add in the apples and enough water to barely cover them (careful since they will float it is easy to add to much), but not so much that they are swimming:)  Bring to a boil, then simmer uncovered until apples are mushy, about 45-60 minutes. Add more water if needed.  

Turn off heat and mash apples.

Serve with vanilla ice cream and enjoy!!!
