how to turn a pie pumpkin into puree (aka canned pumpkin)

 Fall is here and it's time for everything pumpkin!  It is simple to make your own puree and here is how....

Servings 3 cups puree
Total Time 1 hour 10 minutes

  • 1 pie pumpkin

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Cut the pumpkin in half and scoop out the seeds. 

Lay the pumpkins, skin side up, on a baking sheet, and roast for 50-60 minutes until very tender.

Remove from the oven and let cool.  Scoop out the flesh with a spoon and put in into a blender or food processor.  

Blend on high until pureed.  It is now ready to use or freeze for up to 1 year.


Note: 1, 15 ounce can of canned pumpkin = 1 3/4 cup puree
