cranberry sauce with orange and basil

This cranberry sauce is delicious with the added orange and basil.  The sweetness from the basil compliments the tartness of the cranberries and the orange...  it is just a bonus!

Servings 6-8
Total Time 20 minutes

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 12-ounce bag fresh cranberries
  • 1/4 cup orange juice, good quality
  • orange, zested
  • 1 small handful basil leaves, very thinly sliced
  • pinch of kosher salt

In a large saucepan, over high heat, bring sugar and water to a boil.

Add cranberries, then return to a boil until cranberries start to burst (with happiness), about 5-6 minutes.
Reduce heat, add the orange juice and zest and simmer on low heat for 10 minutes until cranberries have cooked down.

Stir in the basil, pinch of salt, and let the sauce cool to room temperature, then serve or refrigerate.  Enjoy!!!
